Australian Convicts

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the Convicts?
The Australian Convicts are an official representative team made up of amateur players from all around Australia whose charter is to promote and develop Australian football internationally. We have so far toured Europe in 2003 and South Africa in 2005. In March 2007 we toured Sth Africa and in October 2007 we toured USA & Canada. We plan to tour the USA & Canada again in 2008 and South Africa in 2009.

At what dates will applications close?
Spaces are limited to only twenty (20) people for any one tour so it is advisable to apply as early as possible. If you are wanting to apply but unsure if places are still available please call our offices for an update as to availability. All applications must be made in writing via the "apply" button at the top of our web site. Alternately you may fax your application to our offices.

Is the tour just for players?
No, we also have positions available on each tour for Coaches, Team Managers, Sports Trainers and supporters.

Am I eligible to play?
At the time of departure all players must be a minimum age of 18 and hold a valid passport with at least six months validity.

How many games will I play?
The tour will feature a minimum of two matches against international opposition.

What position will I play?
You will be allocated a position commensurate with both team balance and your football experience. Every effort will be made to place players in their preferred positions.

What do I need to bring?
Apart from your passport, luggage and your spending money, you will need your footy boots and training gear. You will be supplied with an official Convicts playing uniform (jumper, shorts & socks), as well as a polo shirt and cap. It's also a good idea to pack light as you will collect many souvenirs along the way!

Will I get to wear my favourite number?
Numbers will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. So the sooner you get your application in, the better!

Do I have to pay up front for the total tour?
No. We have a payment schedule that will make the process a lot easier. The payment schedule is as follows:

Due dates:
Initial deposit $1000
Second payment required 90 days prior to travel (50% of outstanding balance)
Final payment required 60 days prior to travel (Balance owing)

Are payments refundable?
Initial deposits are paid directly to secure flights and accomodation and as such are non-refundable. We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance at time of booking to cover for any unforeseen cancellations.

What is included with my payment?
All inclusions are listed on the left hand side of your chosen tours itinerary page. We have attempted to make the tour as inclusive as possible without any hidden costs. Generally you will need to have money for food and drinks. Some meals are included in the itineraries thus being at no extra cost to you. Any items not listed in the itinerary inclusions will be at your own expense.

Are all taxes and charges included in my payment?
We have attempted to make the tour inclusive of all taxes and charges but please note that these charges can be subject to change without notice. These taxes are out of our control and usually relate to airport taxes and airline and fuel levies. You will be notified if these charges change.

Are there other ways of funding my trip?
Yes! You can get sponsors to fund your trip - click here for full details!

What about insurance?
You must take out the Travel Insurance prescribed by The Convicts or one of its agents to tour. We receive discounted rates that cover your entire tour including game day so all you need to do is relax and have fun!

How much spending money will I require?
This is dependant on your requirements and the country to which you are travelling. The following amounts in Australian dollars will provide you with the basic necessities (food, some drinks, basic admissions). In USA $100 per day and South Africa $75 per day. Please note these are guides only please feel free to consult us for more information.

Aside from the football what else can I look forward to doing?
The footy is only one component of every tour. The sightseeing and activities are quite diverse. For example players on our tour to South Africa enjoyed a varied range of activities, some of which were inclusions in the tour and others that were optional. Some of these included a number of Game Drives, dinner functions, deep sea fishing, ballooning, helicopter rides, sightseeing tours of major cities and attractions, cultural displays, visits to crocodile and snake farms, shopping tours, and rounds of golf, just to name a few.
