2012 Africa Tour Itinerary

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1 Thursday 18 October – Australia
Depart from Melbourne this evening on your economy class flight to Maputo via Perth and Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Maputo (morning of 2 November) you will be met by our local tour guide and transferred to your accommodation to recover from your flight. In the afternoon we will have our first training run to shake off the cobwebs!

Day 2 Friday 19 October – Maputo
Welcome to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique! With its Mediterranean-style architecture, flame-tree-lined avenues, sidewalk cafés and waterside setting, Maputo is easily one of Africa’s most attractive capitals.
Today we will enjoy a guided tour of Maputo. Highlights include the Railway Building, Botanical Gardens, Iron House, National History Museum and the Portuguese Fort.
Tonight we will have a welcoming function at the hotel, including our jumper presentation.

Day 3 Saturday 20 October – Maputo
This morning we will conduct a coaching clinic for children from Mozambique. The opportunity to teach the skills of our great game to local kids is an extremely rewarding experience and one of the highlights of the trip!
In the afternoon we will play our first match of the tour against the Mozambique National Team.
After the match we will enjoy an after-match BBQ with our new brothers from Mozambique.

Day 4 Sunday 21 October – Maputo
Today is a free to day to rest and recharge the batteries. There are plenty of things to do in Maputo, an amazing city with a fantastic vibe.

Day 5 Monday 22 October – Inhaca & Portuguese Islands
The 2,500km long Mozambique coastline boats numerous superb beaches fringed by lagoons, coral reefs and strings of small islands. Today we will enjoy a day trip to two of Mozambique’s most famous islands, Inhaca & Portuguese.
You will enjoy a wonderful day and relax on the beach with an unforgettable experience of the Indian Ocean at is very best.

Day 6 Tuesday 23 October – Swaziland
This morning we will depart Maputo and journey to Swaziland. The nation, as well as its people, are named after the 19th century king Mswati II. We will visit the Mantenga Cultural Village where you will appreciate the history and culture of the legendary Swazi nation. To the beat of echoing cowhide drums, traditional Swazi dancing is performed by dancers in a nearby boma. We will also visit Malandela’s Homestead and the famous Swazi Candle Factory.

Day 7 Wednesday 24 October – Swaziland
This morning we will conduct a coaching clinic for children from Swaziland.
In the afternoon we will play our second match of the tour against the Swaziland National Team.
After the match we will enjoy an after-match BBQ with our new brothers from Swaziland.

Day 8 Thursday 25 October – Kruger National Park
This morning is an early start as your coach will collect you from the hotel and you will embark on the two-hour drive to the world famous Kruger National Park in South Africa. The opportunity to see animals such as the Big 5 (Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard), as well as zebras, giraffes, baboons and hippos in their natural habitat is truly a sight to behold!

Day 9 Friday 26 October – Kruger National Park
Today is our second safari of the tour. We will be collected by our game rangers in open top game viewing vehicles and journey back into the bush.
After your drive you will enjoy a BBQ under African skies, where you can savour the sounds of the wild.

Day 10 Saturday 27 October – Kruger National Park to Johannesburg
This morning we will depart Kruger and travel to Johannesburg via coach. Upon arrival in Johannesburg you will be transferred to your hotel. On the way we will stop at the famous Lion Park, where you will have the opportunity to interact with lion cubs.

Day 11 Sunday 28 October – Johannesburg
This morning we will conduct a coaching clinic for children from Johannesburg.
In the afternoon we will play our second match of the tour against the South African National Team.
After the match we will enjoy an after-match BBQ with our new brothers from South Africa.

Day 12 Monday 29 October – Soweto
This morning we will embark on a guided tour of the famous Soweto Township. A highlight will be a visit to the simple township house in Orlando West where Nelson Mandela lived before he was incarcerated for 26 years. Other visits include many symbols from the apartheid era – Regina Mundi, Avalon Cemetery, Freedom Square, Oppenheimer Tower and Hector Peterson Memorial Square, named after the first casualty of the Soweto uprising in 1976.

Day 13 Tuesday 30 October – Johannesburg
Today is a free day to enjoy your last full day in Africa. You can choose to do some additional sightseeing or just relax.

Day 14 Wednesday 31 November – Johannesburg to Australia
All good things must come to an end and unfortunately this trip is no exception. You will depart from Johannesburg Airport for your connecting flight back to Australia.
